The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300 is one of the most beautiful wristwatches of all time. It is super precise, it looks great (especially during sunny days) and it is comfortable on the wrist. Forget the Explorer, the (even cheaper) Oyster Perpetual is the perfect watch to start your collection!
They last a lifetime and belong to the most desirable products you can buy. I’m talking about Rolex wristwatches. Everyone needs a great timepiece and Rolex is the most famous brand for offering some of the most beauitful and precise watches on the planet. But it’s not easy to decide which model does fit you best — especially if it’s going to be your first Rolex.
It took me more than one year to finally make a buying decision. But before that, I went to many many Rolex boutiques, looking at Explorers, Submariners and Datejusts; I’ve read countless threads in discussion boards. Sometimes I even thought about buying an Omega Aquaterra… but finally I came to the conclusion: The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual was the one I liked most. And I bought it. Half a year later, I can tell you I made the right decision, it’s a watch you are going to fall in love with!
The most beautiful dial? Blue!
The 114300 is available with three dials: dark rhodium, red grape and blue. The rhodium one looks good on the Rolex website, but in reality it’s too pale and offers less contrast. The red grape dial, in my opinion, looks best on female wrists. The blue dial is the most expressive one: The dark blue changes it’s tone in the sun and the green dots provide a charming contrast, though they never appear intrusive. On cloudy days, the dial appears nearly black, while in the sun it comes to life. It never gets boring! But this is an experience you cannot make in a boutique, you really need to wear this watch everyday. And you will love doing that , since it is not too heavy, and the 904 steel feels very good on the skin.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300: A true classic
The face of the watch itself is classical: the Datejust like hands and indices are made of white gold, the 3-6-9 indices are are glowing green when it’s dark. Wherever you are, you can easily read the time. By the way, this was one of my fears before buying the watch… In the boutique I was afraid that the dial would be barely readable because in certain lighting conditions the indices seem to disappear. But trust me, I never had one moment when I was not able to read the time. My lady was right, since she told me before buying the watch: “Do you really think Rolex is building watches one’s not able to read?”
39 mm is the perfect size
The watch diameter is 39 mm which is the perfect size for an everyday watch. There is no date function and I don’t miss it at all. Much more important than a date function is the precision, and yes, this watch is very precise! Rolex guarantees a precision of -2/+2 seconds a day. Mine is about +1 sec a day. But if I’m doing a long offroad bike tour, it runs a bit faster. The Swiss movement 3132 is the same as the 1000 US Dollar more expensive Rolex Explorer 214270 is using. The self-winding watch has a power reserve of 48 hours, which is more than enough.
You can even swim with this watch, since it’s 100m water resistant, the Sapphire glass is scratch resistant… well, I could tell you a lot more about the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 114300, but hey, a picture is worth a thousand words. Enjoy!
The price of the watch is 5700 USD or around 5200 Euros.
Feel free to ask some questions, I’m answering them all, promise!
